Euro-Pro Announces Shark Vacuum Cleaner Recall for Electrical Hazard
One of the largest makers of vacuum cleaners in the country, Euro-Pro, has announced a voluntary recall of four models of their Shark brand vacuums because of a potential shock hazard.
Affected by the recall are four separate models of Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away series upright vacuum cleaners. All of the vacuum cleaners measure 45 inches tall and 12 inches wide, are either maroon or purple, and they have the brands Shark and Rotator printed on the front. The recalled model numbers are the NV650W, NV651, NV652 and NV660. The model number appears on a silver sticker on back of each unit in the upper right-hand corner. In addition, the units being recalled have date codes beginning with the number 48 or lower and ending with 14. The date code is embossed on the metal prong of the power plug.
According to Euro-Pro, these models of the “Rotator Powered Lift-Away” series of vacuum cleaners have an aluminum wand that can become disconnected from the cleaner’s handle but still be remain energized with electricity, which can present an electrical shock hazard.
The vacuum cleaners were sold in a number of retail stores, from infomercials and online. In all, the recall affects 142,000 vacuums in the United States and another 650 in Canada.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been 62 incidents reported in which the aluminum wand became disconnected from the vacuum cleaner’s handle, although so far, there have been no reported injuries.
